Hi @emo-ric,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're using an OMEN by HP Desktop PC and experiencing issues when connecting a HDMI TV, where your running apps are hidden and only the desktop is displayed on your main DVI monitor, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.
- Extend Display: It's possible that your PC is set to duplicate the display instead of extending it. To change this, right-click on your desktop and select "Display settings" or "Screen resolution." Look for the multiple display options and choose "Extend these displays" or a similar option. This should allow you to use both your DVI monitor and HDMI TV simultaneously.
- Display Settings: Check your display settings to ensure that both the DVI monitor and HDMI TV are recognized and configured correctly. In the display settings, you should see both displays listed. Make sure the HDMI TV is set as the secondary display and positioned correctly in relation to the DVI monitor.
- Graphics Card Settings: If you have a dedicated graphics card installed, there may be additional settings specific to your graphics card software. Look for the graphics card control panel (e.g., NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Catalyst Control Center) and check the display settings there. Ensure that the HDMI TV is recognized and configured as a separate display.
- Updated Graphics Drivers: Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can sometimes cause display issues. Visit the website of your graphics card manufacturer (e.g., NVIDIA, AMD, Intel) and download the latest drivers for your specific graphics card model. Install the drivers and restart your PC to see if the issue is resolved.
- Different HDMI Port: Try connecting your HDMI TV to a different HDMI port on your PC, if available. Sometimes certain ports may have limitations or specific configurations, so using a different port may help.
- Cable and Connections: Ensure that the HDMI cable is securely connected to both the HDMI TV and the PC. Check for any physical damage to the cable and try using a different HDMI cable if possible.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
