Microsoft Windows 11

Hey all,

I got a new desktop a few days ago and when my tv is connected via a HDMI cable, I do not get a login screen.

The tv only shows a 'no signal' message.

I tried some things with other cables and a different screen connected to a VGA port on the desktop.

With some luck and a lot af trial and error, I found that the pc is stuck or freezes or just doesn't display anything when a HDMI is connected when I start up the pc.

I am fairly certain this is the case, because when I disconnect the HDMI before start up and then connect it after a short wait (to make sure the start up is done) the login screen is shown and I can use the desktop with the tv without any issues.

Leaving the HDMI connected during startup results in the 'no signal' message.

I did this several times with the expected result every time.

I have tried updating the display drivers, checking the BIOS to set a primary display (of which the option was not present in the BIOS). I checked Windows updates, HP updates etc.

I have seen troubleshoot guides were you need to check the resolution and refreshrates of the tv and set them accordingly on the desktop.

Now they are set to 3840x2160 @60Hz, which should be fine for the tv.

But until now nothing has resolved this issue.

Does anyone have any idea or solutions for this?

This happens with the HDMI on the motherboard and on the GPU.

My setup:

Manufacturer: HP

OS: Windows 11

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G

GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060

tv as display: Samsung UE55HU7500L

I had a similar problem.  My  GTX1060 -> LGTV was working fine until I upgraded to a 1070ti.  The computer no longer saw the TV anymore.  I suspect the problem is the initial connection protocol and a weak signal due to powering up.

Three possible fixes

1  After powering and no display use the keyboard and press WINDOWSKEY + p.  Then press the cursor down button once and then press ENTER to select "duplicate".  Something like the following

2.  Get a powered HDMI switch to connect to the TV. If you have a blue ray player then set it as #1 and the PC as #2 and try switching back and forth.  The powered HDMI switch may provide a strong enough signal to / from TV to make it work without having to switch away and back.

3 I solved my problem by using a dummy load.  The card had 1 HDMI and 3 DP port.  I got the system working, attached the dummy DP load and set up multipole displays with "DUPLICATE"..  Not sure if this will work for you.  If your TV is 4k then get 4k dummy load.
