Hi @vyas7

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining that—having your screen stuck at full brightness can be really uncomfortable, especially when the usual controls aren’t working.

Let’s walk through a few steps to help you regain control:

🌟 Step 1: Check the graphics drivers
Sometimes brightness controls disappear if the display driver isn’t working properly:

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Display adapters and right-click your graphics card (usually AMD or Intel).
  • Choose Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
  • Restart your laptop after the update.

🧰 Step 2: Reinstall the display driver manually
If updating doesn’t help:

  • Visit the HP Support page for your model.
  • Download and install the latest graphics driver listed for your laptop.
  • Restart and check if brightness controls return.

🔧 Step 3: Enable Generic PnP Monitor
Sometimes the monitor gets disabled:

  • In Device Manager, expand Monitors.
  • If you see Generic PnP Monitor, right-click and choose Enable (if it’s disabled).
  • If it’s missing, click Action > Scan for hardware changes.

💡 Step 4: Use keyboard shortcuts with Fn key
Try pressing Fn + F2 or Fn + F3 instead of just F2/F3. Some laptops require the Fn key to activate brightness controls.

🖥Step 5: Restore brightness slider in Settings
If the slider is missing:

  • Open Settings > System > Display.
  • Scroll down and click Advanced display settings.
  • Check if your display is listed correctly. If not, reinstall the display driver as mentioned above.

Let me know how it goes or if you'd like help with any of the steps—I’ll stick with you until your screen calms down! 😄
