Hi @loczta13,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP 15 laptop only stays on when plugged in and won't run on battery power, it might be due to one of the following issues.

  • Battery Health: The battery may be worn out or faulty. You can check the battery's health status through the BIOS or Windows battery report.
  • Battery Connection: Sometimes, the battery connection inside the laptop might be loose or dirty. You can try reseating the battery if it's removable.
  • Power Settings: Check the power settings in Windows to ensure they are configured correctly. Go to Control Panel > Power Options and review your power plans.
  • ACPI Driver: The Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) driver might be outdated or corrupt. Try updating or reinstalling the ACPI driver.
  • Battery Calibration: The battery might need recalibration. To do this, fully charge the battery, then let it discharge completely until the laptop shuts off by itself, and then charge it back to 100% without interruption.
  • Hardware Issues: There could be a hardware problem with the battery or charging circuitry.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
