Hi @mkr73
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Seeing a "Check Video Cable" message after shutting down your computer typically indicates that the monitor is not receiving a signal once the PC powers off.
This is a normal behavior for many monitors.
However, if you'd like to resolve or prevent this, here are some steps to consider:
1. Turn Off the Monitor After Shutting Down the Computer
When your computer shuts down, the monitor remains powered on but without an active input. Turning the monitor off manually after shutting down your computer can eliminate the message.
2. Adjust the Monitor's Sleep Settings
Many monitors have power-saving features:
Use the monitor's on-screen display (OSD) menu (usually accessible via buttons on the monitor) to configure it to enter sleep mode automatically after a certain period without an active signal. This prevents the "Check Video Cable" message from appearing.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
