Hi @MAMendoza
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thank you for explaining the situation so clearly. It’s genuinely frustrating when a system that’s been reliable suddenly goes dark—especially when the hard drive light suggests it’s still alive beneath the surface.
Let’s walk through a few focused steps to help bring your HP Pavilion 23-p017c back to life.
Initial Checks
1. Power Reset
This simple step can clear residual power and reset display circuits:
- Disconnect all peripherals and power cable.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect power and try turning it on again.
2. BIOS Access Test
Try pressing Esc repeatedly right after powering on. If the BIOS menu appears, the issue may be with Windows or the display driver. If nothing shows, we’ll dig deeper.
External Display Troubleshooting
Since you used a USB-to-HDMI adapter, it’s important to note:
- These adapters often require drivers and don’t activate during BIOS or boot.
- For testing, use a direct HDMI or VGA port if available on your system.
If your Pavilion lacks native video-out, external display testing may not be viable until Windows loads—so we’ll focus on internal recovery.
Hardware Diagnostic
Your system includes built-in diagnostics:
- Power on and press Esc, then F2 for System Diagnostics.
- Run the Display Test and Memory Test.
- If the screen remains blank, listen for beeps or fan behavior—these can signal hardware faults.
Recovery Options
If diagnostics pass but Windows won’t load:
- Try pressing F11 during boot to access HP Recovery Manager.
- If available, choose System Recovery to reinstall Windows.
If F11 doesn’t work and you have access to another PC:
- Create a bootable USB using HP’s recovery media creation tool.
- Boot from USB (press Esc, then F9) and reinstall Windows.
If Display Hardware Has Failed
If all else fails and the internal display remains inactive:
- The LCD panel, display cable, or graphics controller may have failed.
Let me know what you observe during these steps—whether the BIOS appears, diagnostics run, or if the recovery menu loads. We’ll take it from there and make sure you’re not left in the dark.
If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution! ✅ It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!
