question on video cards for HP EliteDesk 800 G1, G2, and G3 SFF desktops

We need to install dedicated video cards into our EliteDesk 800 G1, G2, and G3 SFF desktops as the onboard video is no longer good enough for a group of special function PCs in our company.  We need to go as powerful as we can a dedicated video card for what the power supplies on the SFF desktops can handle.

The quickspec sheets only seem to list graphic cards that HP wants to pair with that particular model at the time it was released.

Currently we have evaluated video card based on NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 1030 cards that draw 30W and did better job than the onboard video.

Looked at other cards for a moderate price increase but they all were more like 80 to 90W power consumption so ruled those out.

Given the Quadro P1000 only draws 17W more power (47W) and it is significantly more powerful than the GT 1030 card, I would love to have this as an option if safe to use on the 800 G1, G2, G3 SFF desktops.

HP only lists that as an available feature say on the Z240 SFF workstation.

Does anyone know where I can verify what is the max # of watts of a video card I'm allowed to install in the EliteDesk 800 G1, G2, or G3 SFF desktops and whether something like the Quadro P1000 card is safe to use on these PCs?

Miss the old days having a direct HP tech rep we could contact...  😞

Hi:

There isn't anyone I know of that would be able to say how high a wattage draw you can go--like at what point there would be too much draw on the P/S.

I can tell you that according to the specs, the max power draw of the PCIe x16 slot in the SFF is 35W.

See page 14 of the quickspecs below...I pulled the one for the 800 G1

But if you are willing to risk exceeding that specification, then you may as well risk trying one card on a PC and see what happens, since the card is supported in a PC with the same 240W power supply.

Unfortunately, I cannot find the PCIe x16 slot wattage specs for the Z240 SFF

IMHO, that would be my only concern...the slot wattage.
