Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.
I understand that you have an HP 2311x 23-inch Diagonal LED Monitor and it displays a message saying "check video" cable and then goes to sleep mode. I'll be glad to assist you with this case.
Is the monitor connected via DVI-D, HDMI or VGA connection?
Have you tested the monitor with all the connection types and check if it works fine?
Meanwhile, please perform a monitor self test by following the below steps:
- Shutdown the PC and the monitor.
- Disconnect the monitor cable from the PC.
- Power on only the monitor. If the monitor displays a message stating "check video cable", "no input signal", etc. without going to sleep then it indicates that the monitor is alright.
Hope this helps. Let me know. Cheers! 🙂
