Hello, is there a way to supply the screen externally, e.g. via HDMI-in or USB-C-in?

Hi @PatSig, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP ENVY All-in-One 34-c1730nz PC does not support using its display as an external monitor. It lacks an HDMI input port; instead, it only has HDMI output ports. This means you cannot connect another device to use the HP ENVY's screen as a display for that device.
While the Thunderbolt ports on the HP ENVY can be used to connect additional monitors, they do not function as input ports for external video sources. The system is designed primarily for output rather than input, which limits its capability to serve as a monitor for other devices.
Here are some alternative solutions:
1. Use Remote Desktop or Screen Sharing
If you want to use the AIO's screen to display another PC or device, you can use remote access:
- Windows Remote Desktop (RDP): If the external PC is running Windows Pro, you can enable Remote Desktop and access it from your AIO.
- Third-Party Apps: Use apps like AnyDesk, TeamViewer, or Chrome Remote Desktop to mirror another device onto your AIO screen.
2. Use a Video Capture Card
If you need to connect a device like a gaming console or another PC to your AIO’s screen, a USB capture card can act as an HDMI-in adapter.
- Buy a USB 3.0 HDMI Capture Card.
- Connect the HDMI output from your external device to the capture card.
- Plug the capture card into a USB-A or USB-C port on your AIO.
- Use software like OBS Studio to view the video feed in real time.
3. Use a Wireless Display Adapter
If your goal is to mirror a smartphone or another Windows PC to the AIO’s screen, use:
- Windows Wireless Display (Miracast):
- Open Settings > Apps > Optional Features > Add a feature
- Install "Wireless Display" and use the Project to this PC option.
- Chromecast or Miracast dongles can also help if the external device supports wireless casting.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
