Hi @pip12345,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you’re experiencing issues with the scrolling functionality of your mouse. This can be caused by a few different factors, including hardware issues, software settings, or even dirt buildup. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you troubleshoot and fix the problem:

1. Clean the Mouse

  • If your mouse has a removable cable, unplug it. If it’s wireless, turn it off.
  • Use compressed air to blow out any dust or debris from around the scroll wheel.
  • Gently clean the scroll wheel and surrounding area with a cotton swab lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol.
  • Ensure that the surface you’re using the mouse on is clean and flat. Sometimes, an uneven surface can cause erratic scrolling behavior.

2. Check Software Settings

  • For Windows:
    • Go to “Settings” > “Devices” > “Mouse.”
    • Adjust the “Roll the mouse wheel to scroll” setting. You can set it to scroll multiple lines at a time or one screen at a time.
    • Test the mouse wheel sensitivity and direction settings.
  • For macOS:
    • Go to “System Preferences” > “Mouse.”
    • Adjust the scrolling speed and direction settings.

Update or Reinstall Drivers:

  • For Windows:
    • Go to “Device Manager” > “Mice and other pointing devices.”
    • Right-click on your mouse and select “Update driver.” Follow the prompts to search for updated drivers.
    • If updating doesn’t work, you can also uninstall the driver and then restart your computer to reinstall it automatically.
  • For macOS:
    • macOS generally manages drivers automatically. If your mouse came with specific software, check for updates from the manufacturer’s website.

3. Check for Conflicts or Issues:

  • Plug the mouse into a different computer to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the mouse or your computer.
  • If possible, use another mouse with your computer to see if the scrolling issue persists. This can help identify whether the problem is with your current mouse or your computer’s settings.

4. Check for Firmware or Software Updates

  • Some mice come with specific software that allows for additional customization. Check the Hp website for any firmware updates or software that may be available for your mouse.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
