Hi @1aoj,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your webcam keeps closing every 2 seconds and you’re experiencing issues like monochrome tabs in your browser, it could be related to several factors, including driver issues, software conflicts, or hardware problems. Here’s a comprehensive troubleshooting guide to address these issues:

1. Check Webcam Drivers

Update Webcam Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager: Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Imaging Devices: Find your webcam listed under Imaging devices.
  • Update Driver: Right-click on the webcam and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Reinstall Webcam Drivers:

  • Uninstall Driver: Right-click on the webcam in Device Manager and select Uninstall device. Restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

2. Check for Conflicting Software

Close Background Applications:

  • Ensure that no other applications are using the webcam simultaneously. Close any programs that might be accessing the camera.

Check for Webcam Software:

  • If you have any third-party webcam software installed, try uninstalling or updating it to see if it resolves the issue.

3. Browser Issues

Update Your Browser:

  • Ensure that your browser is up to date. Go to the browser’s settings and check for updates.

Clear Browser Cache:

  • Clear your browser’s cache and cookies to resolve any temporary issues.
  • In Chrome: Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Clear browsing data.
  • In Firefox: Go to Options > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data > Clear Data.

Disable Browser Extensions:

  • Some extensions might cause conflicts. Disable all extensions and check if the problem persists.
  • In Chrome: Go to Settings > Extensions and toggle off each extension.
  • In Firefox: Go to Add-ons and disable extensions.

4. Webcam Software and Permissions

Check Webcam Software Settings:

  • Open the webcam software (if you have one) and check its settings. Ensure that the camera is properly configured.

Adjust Privacy Settings:

  • Ensure that your webcam is allowed to be used by applications.
  • In Windows 10/11: Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera and make sure Allow apps to access your camera is turned on.

5. Check System Resources

Monitor Resource Usage:

  • Open Task Manager: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Check for High Usage: Look at CPU, memory, and disk usage to see if any processes are consuming excessive resources, which might affect the webcam’s performance.

Check for Malware:

  • Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or any reputable antivirus software to rule out malware that might be affecting system performance.

6. System Updates

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
