Hi @SoiledMyself,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HDMI port on the back of your monitor is used for connecting various audio and video sources to your monitor. HDMI stands for "High-Definition Multimedia Interface," and it is a common type of interface used in electronics for transmitting high-definition video and audio signals between devices.
Here are some common uses for the HDMI port on your monitor:
- Connecting a Computer: Most commonly, people use HDMI to connect their computer or laptop to a monitor. This allows you to extend your computer's desktop onto the monitor or use the monitor as the primary display.
- Connecting a Gaming Console: HDMI ports are commonly used to connect gaming consoles like PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch to a monitor. This provides a high-quality gaming experience.
- Connecting a Blu-ray Player or DVD Player: You can use HDMI to connect a Blu-ray player, DVD player, or other media players to your monitor for watching movies or streaming content.
- Connecting a Set-Top Box: HDMI is used for connecting cable or satellite set-top boxes, allowing you to watch TV on your monitor.
- Connecting Streaming Devices: Devices like Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire Stick, and Chromecast can be connected to your monitor through HDMI to stream online content.
- Connecting Cameras and Camcorders: Some digital cameras and camcorders have HDMI outputs, which allow you to display photos and videos on a larger screen, like your monitor.
- Connecting Audio/Video Receivers: HDMI is also used in home theater systems to connect audio/video receivers to the TV or monitor for a high-quality audio and video experience.
- Connecting Other HDMI-Compatible Devices: There are many other devices that use HDMI, such as some smartphones, tablets, and even certain portable projectors.
HDMI is a versatile and widely supported standard for connecting devices, providing both high-definition video and audio in a single cable. If your monitor has built-in speakers, HDMI can also transmit audio to the monitor, eliminating the need for separate audio cables. Make sure to check the specific capabilities of your monitor and the devices you want to connect to ensure compatibility and optimal performance.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Alden4,
So the HDMI port on the back of my monitor is an input port.
I have an HP Slimline Desktop PC 270-a015t. I am on Hughesnet.com. What I am trying to do is stream to my TV.
I thought I could hook the HDMI on my monitor to my TV. I guess not. Any help on how to do this?
