@kenniedy, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Restart Your Laptop and Router

  • Restart your laptop: Sometimes, a simple reboot can resolve connectivity issues.
  • Restart your router: Unplug it, wait for 30 seconds, and plug it back in. This can resolve network issues from the router side.

Check Airplane Mode

  • Make sure airplane mode is off:
    • Click on the network icon on the taskbar (bottom-right corner).
    • If airplane mode is on, click to turn it off.

Check Wi-Fi Is Enabled

  1. Right-click the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar.
  2. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on. If you don't see the option to connect to a network, it could be disabled.
  3. If you're using a physical Wi-Fi switch on your laptop (some models have one), make sure it’s turned on.

Run the Network Troubleshooter

  1. Open Settings by pressing Windows + I.
  2. Go to Network & Internet > Status.
  3. Scroll down and click on Network Troubleshooter.
  4. Follow the instructions provided by the troubleshooter to see if it can detect and fix the issue.

Check Device Manager for Network Adapters

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Look for Network adapters and expand it.
  3. If you see a yellow triangle or an exclamation mark next to the adapter, right-click on it and select Update Driver or Uninstall Device and restart your computer (Windows will try to reinstall the driver).
  4. If the adapter is not listed, you may need to reinstall or update the network drivers.

Reinstall or Update Wi-Fi Drivers

  1. Open Device Manager (press Windows + X, then select Device Manager).
  2. Expand Network adapters.
  3. Right-click your wireless adapter (it may be called something like "Intel Wireless" or "Realtek" or similar).
  4. Select Update Driver and choose Search automatically for updated driver software. If no updates are found, visit the HP website to download the latest driver.

Check for Windows Updates

  1. Open Settings (Windows + I).
  2. Go to Update & Security.
  3. Select Windows Update and click on Check for updates.
  4. If there are updates available, install them and restart your laptop.

Reset Network Settings (Advanced)

  1. Open Settings (Windows + I).
  2. Go to Network & Internet > Status.
  3. Scroll down and click Network reset.
  4. Click Reset now and confirm. This will reset all your network settings to default, including your Wi-Fi settings, and might fix the issue.

Check for Hardware Issues

If none of the above steps work, there may be a hardware issue with your laptop’s Wi-Fi adapter. You can try:

  • Connecting to a different Wi-Fi network (e.g., at a friend’s house, café, etc.).
  • Using a USB Wi-Fi adapter as a workaround if the built-in adapter is malfunctioning.

Restore Your System (Optional)

If the issue just started recently and you think it could be due to a system change, you can use System Restore to revert your system back to a time when the Wi-Fi was working.

  1. Search for "System Restore" in the Start Menu.
  2. Select Create a restore point.
  3. Under the System Protection tab, click on System Restore and follow the prompts.

Important Considerations:

  • Back up critical files: Before performing any system restore or reset, it’s a good practice to back up your important files to an external hard drive or cloud storage, just in case something unexpected happens.
  • Automatic Backups: If you use Windows Backup or OneDrive, your personal files might already be backed up regularly. Ensure that your files are safe before proceeding with any major changes.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
