I cannot connect to my wifi through my Ethernet cable and when its plugged, the top light flashes amber. I've downloaded all the available updates including through HP support assistant and its still flashing and won't connect. Any ideas?

Hello, and Welcome to the HP Support Community!   I have a few questions...

What is the actual model number of your computer?  Here's a link to help locate your model number: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_2039298-1862169-16

"Wifi" and "Ethernet" are two different ways to connect to the internet.  One is wireless (wifi) and uses radio frequencies, the other is wired and uses an ethernet (Category 5, 6, etc) cable.  You cannot connect to a wifi  using a cable.  You can however connect to a router or modem using a cable.

"The top light flashes amber".   <--- what does that mean?  What light?  On the ethernet port?  On your router?

This page offers wireless and wired network connection troubleshooting:  https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/diagnostics?category=computing&issue=network-issues

Hope this helps,

WyreNut
