Hi - bought a HP 230 wireless keyboard and mouse combo in 27th August 2023 from Amazon. It has stopped working this week, and its not recognizing the keyboard or the mouse. When I unplug and plug the USB dongle into the computer the Device Manager does not recognize it (no update in the device list). The lights on the keyboard and mouse are OK so I think these items are OK. Serial No is not recognized on the HP website so I cannot get any assistance/replacement, however I see the device has a 2 year warranty. Please advise of any assistance with fixing this problem.

Hi @Jason90909090,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP 230 wireless keyboard and mouse combo is facing connectivity or recognition issues with your Windows 11 system. Since the keyboard and mouse lights are functional, the issue is likely related to the USB dongle or the system recognizing it.
Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem:
Troubleshooting Steps:
Try a Different USB Port:
- Plug the USB dongle into another USB port on your PC to rule out port-related issues.
Test on Another Computer:
- Plug the USB dongle into a different computer to check whether the dongle is working. This will help determine if the dongle is faulty.
Check for Dongle Issues:
- If possible, examine the USB dongle for any visible damage or wear that might prevent proper connection.
Unpair and Re-pair Devices:
- If the keyboard and mouse combo have a re-pairing process (check the user manual), try re-pairing them to the dongle. Some HP wireless devices have a button to reset the pairing.
Update USB Drivers:
- Open Device Manager:
- Press Windows + X > Device Manager.
- Scroll to Universal Serial Bus controllers, and update the drivers for any "USB Root Hub" or related devices.
- Right-click on the USB controllers and select Update Driver > Search automatically for drivers.
Check Power Settings for USB Devices:
- Go to Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers, and right-click the USB hubs.
- Click Properties > Power Management tab, and ensure that "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Go to Settings > Windows Update, and make sure your system is fully updated. Windows 11 updates may help resolve compatibility issues with the USB dongle.
Uninstall and Reinstall USB Controllers:
- In Device Manager, right-click each USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers and click Uninstall. Restart your computer, and Windows will reinstall the drivers automatically.
HP Support Tools: HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures
- Since the serial number isn't recognized, you might want to try HP's Diagnostic Tools (available online) to troubleshoot your system and devices:
- Visit HP PC Hardware Diagnostics and run a diagnostic check on your USB ports or external devices.
Refer to this document: HP 230 Wireless Mouse and Keyboard Combo - HP Support User manual
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
