I am showing a Realtek PCle GBE Family Controller.

I also went into the network and sharing center and I did finally see a connection for braodband and not wireless BUT there is something there I have never seen before and that is I must have a user name and password.  I have no idea what that might be since I've never had to use one.

I might have to contact Comcast but at this hour I am possibly just going to get one of the peons and I'll have to more than likely talk to someone higher up.  What's your opinion?

Unfortunately, I would have no idea what that could be about either.

I just turn on the PC and after I log on (enter windows password), I can immediately connect to the internet without any further action on my part.

I've certainly NEVER seen this before but this seems to be something that I need to be able to connect. I certainly do not have to do this when I am plugged into my modem with my other computer (which I am on right now).

Do you think it would do any good to even call comcast and ask ?

I went out on a limb an simply unplugged my connection to this computer and plugged the cable from the HP into the modem and lo and behold I had an ainternet connection to my HP 🙂

Right now the connection is a bit slow but I've had problems with my Comcast connection for most of the evening.

I would think this will sooner or later srraighten things out!

I do want to thank you for your patience in keeping in there with me and helping out a senior citizen who was well over his geek head with this particular problem!

Thanks a million!!! 🙂

PS: How do I grade this thing ?

Since this was strung out all over creation - why don't you write a summary and I can accept that as a solution

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

You can just click on the blue accept as solution button the reply that best helped you solve the issue, which in my opinion was the driver from Realtek I posted.

It is done - thanks very much for the assist! B/H my HP is now a fully functioning computer ! 🙂
