Hi @depa3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand how it can be when Wake-on-LAN (WOL) doesn’t work as expected .

Could you please share your HP laptop model and whether you’re running Windows 10, Windows 11, or another operating system?

Here are some generic steps you can try:

01.Enable WOL in BIOS

WOL must be activated at the firmware level before Windows can use it.

Restart → Press F10 (HP BIOS Setup) → Advanced → Power Management

Look for Wake on LAN or Power on by PCI-E

Set it to Enabled

Save changes and exit BIOS

02.Check Network Adapter Settings

Windows network drivers often disable WOL by default.

Go to Device Manager → Network Adapters → [Your Adapter] → Properties → Power Management

Tick Allow this device to wake the computer

Tick Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer

03.Verify Advanced Driver Options

Some adapters have WOL-specific options hidden under Advanced settings.

Device Manager → Network Adapter → Properties → Advanced

Look for Wake on Magic Packet or Wake on Pattern Match

Ensure they are set to Enabled

04.Check Windows Fast Startup

Fast Startup can interfere with WOL because it uses hybrid shutdown.

Control Panel → Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do

Click Change settings that are currently unavailable

Uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended)

Save changes

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, let me know the exact model and whether you’re using Ethernet or Wi-Fi for WOL. That detail is important because most laptops only support WOL over Ethernet.

I hope this helps.

Hi @depa3,

Thanks for your response.

Please note, if the settings are not available. Due to your particular model or BIOS version, then it may be the case that your laptop does not support WoL.

I hope this helps.
