HP All-in-One Desktop PC 24-cr0000a (71U92AV)

My computer will not connect to the internet upon startup anymore for the past 2 weeks (no recent updates in those 2 weeks). For the past two weeks, I can run the network and internet troubleshooter, have it restart my adapter and reset the WiFi Device, but over time I have to run those troubleshooters more and more and reset it more and more. Today, those were no longer working, so I followed every step included in the help article here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-US/Windows/Experience/Connectivity-Networking/fix-wi-fi-connection-...

These did not work, but I did run the command prompts in a different order: ipconfig /flushdns followed by netsh winsock reset, and restarted the computer. Then, I ran ipconfig /flushdns followed by netsh int ip reset, followed by ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew, and restarted. I had to do this a few times, but my computer finally connected to the internet after I ran the network troubleshooter "Restart Adapter," one more time. This allowed me to update all drivers and update the BIOS. After the BIOS restarted the computer, the computer would not connect to the internet again. This time I ran the network troubleshooter "Restart Adapter" and it reconnected to the internet. So, we are back to where we started 2 weeks ago where I have to run the troubleshooter every time I power on or restart my device.

I am looking for a permanent fix, and very frustrated that I can't find a real human to talk to quickly. Hoping to find help.

Hi  @Nakeeza,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand your concern on how this must feel, especially when you've already spent a significant amount of time performing advanced troubleshooting and the issue keeps returning after every restart. I appreciate the detailed information you've provided. Based on what you've described, it sounds like the Wi-Fi adapter may be failing to initialize properly during startup, or there could be an issue with the wireless adapter hardware, driver interaction, or power management settings.

To help check on this further, could you kindly share the below details :

  • Does the Wi-Fi adapter disappear from Device Manager when the issue occurs, or is it still listed?
  • Are there any error messages shown in Device Manager for the wireless adapter?
  • Does the issue occur on all Wi-Fi networks or only your home network?
  • If you connect using Ethernet, does the internet work normally?

In the meantime, kindly try the below steps and confirm :

  1. Disable Wi-Fi Power Saving
    • Open Device Manager.
    • Expand Network adapters.
    • Right-click your wireless adapter and select Properties.
    • Under the Power Management tab, uncheck:
      • Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
    • Click OK and restart the PC.
  2. Perform a Hardware Diagnostic
    • Turn off the computer.
    • Power it on and repeatedly tap F2.
    • Run the Wireless Module Test under HP Hardware Diagnostics.
    • Let us know the results and any failure IDs displayed.
  3. Reinstall the Wireless Adapter
    • Open Device Manager.
    • Right-click the Wi-Fi adapter and select Uninstall device.
    • Check Delete the driver software for this device if available.
    • Restart the computer and reinstall the latest wireless driver from the HP support page for your specific model.
  4. Reset BIOS to Default Settings
    • Press F10 during startup to enter BIOS.
    • Select Restore Defaults or Load Setup Defaults.
    • Save changes and restart.
  5. Check if the Issue Occurs in Safe Mode with Networking
    • This can help determine if a third-party application or service is interfering with the Wi-Fi adapter during startup.

If the wireless hardware diagnostic fails or the issue continues even after driver and BIOS updates, the wireless card itself may require replacement.

Additionally, please let me know whether your unit is still under warranty. If a hardware fault is confirmed and the if device is under warranty, the support team can review available service options for the wireless module.
