HP Pavillon 6
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I had the computer in sleep mode. Returned and found no network (wifi) connection at all. All other devices connect to the router without problems. Scanned for solutions on my other computer (laptop) and found one advice that recurred - to uninstall the adapter which I did. However the computer did not scan for a new driver on reboot. I still cannot find any trace of thi wifi adapter in the device manager or anywhere. I am totally lost in the wilderness here. For now the best option seems to be to forego the built in adapter altogether and just by a USB network adapter off the shelf somewhere. Seems as a bit of waste but I simply have to get this machine online asap...

Edited June 1 2019:

I just could not wait and it is essential for me to have an internet connection on this box as I use it a lot for email. As an USB WiFi adapter from a "known reliable provider" was only €25 this was the choice. It was an easy setup and works just fine. Back online again.

Well - as far as a solution goes this was just the fastest but probably not the best,

I am not experiencing the same connection speed with the USB-WiFi adapter as I did with the one that was built-in with the computer.

Also I am slightly confused as to why certain functions on the desktop machine just tend to die. Same thing happened with one of the front USB ports but that I can live with.

@Karlpersaker

Thank you for posting back.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?
  • Are you still unable to use computer wireless card?
  • Is there any red X or yellow exclamation mark on network bar?
  • What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824 (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

Keep me posted for further assistance.
