Hi @murph6,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the light on your wireless mouse or keyboard stays on for only a few seconds even after replacing the batteries, the issue might be due to one of the following.

Battery Contact Issue

  • Ensure the battery contacts are clean and free of corrosion or debris.
  • Check that the batteries are inserted correctly, observing the "+" and "-" polarity markings.

Low Battery Quality

  • Ensure you're using high-quality, fully charged batteries (preferably alkaline or lithium).
  • Avoid using rechargeable batteries, as they might not provide the necessary voltage.

Device Power Save Mode

  • Some devices have a power-saving feature where the light turns off after a few seconds to conserve energy. This is normal behavior; check if the mouse or keyboard still functions.

Wireless Connection Issue

  • Confirm the USB receiver is securely plugged into your computer.
  • If the device uses Bluetooth, ensure it's properly paired with your computer.

Interference or Range

  • Minimize potential interference from other wireless devices or metallic objects near the USB receiver.
  • Keep the mouse and keyboard within the recommended range from the receiver.

Driver or Firmware Issue

  • Update the drivers for your mouse or keyboard through your device manufacturer's website.
  • If available, check for firmware updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
