Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help with my issue. When I bought this PC I noticed on the wireless keyboard that there is F functions available at the top. However, when I select for example, F8 instead of the key doing what I need it to do, it turns up the brightness.
Is there any way I can swtich on the F keys so that this doesnt happen anymore?
Thanks

I looked over here
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06530366
to see if there is a setting to make the function keys the default when powering up. I did not see any option. However, your bios may be different.
My surface pro 4 has same problem. When turning on the functions keys default to brightness, volume, etc.
When I tap the function key it lights up and I know that the system is now in "Function Key Mode"
I have no option in bios to set the default.
Sorry!

Hi
if this is the problem, function key, and not a problem that it does not work as it should?
I must have repeated it, dozens and dozens of times here
The lock options from the bios, are only available, in the majority of cases, only with laptops
see the manual here
User Guide
"Using the action keys or hot keys
You can quickly access information or perform functions by using certain keys and key combinations.
● Action keys perform an assigned function. The icons on the function keys at the top of the keyboard
illustrate the assigned function for each key.
To use an action key, press and hold the key.
● Hot keys are a combination of the fn key and another key.
To use a hot key, briefly press the fn key, and then briefly press the second key of the combination"

unfortunately the only possible solutions currently are software, or hardware replacement
There is a solution, but that is to block the key, and you may break the keyboard
Unfortunately either this is not suitable or user feedback

If you have another problem, a function that cannot be used, maybe in this case you have a driver problem
in this specific case, because it is mentioned
Microsoft Windows 11
Maybe due to the change?

I am not fully understanding your response, unfortunately.
This has not been an issue, this has been since I got the computer last year. I was just wondering if there was a way to switch off whatever configuration I have to the F function that are shown on my keyboard.
From my understanding from the post above, I need to change something within my bios?

So, I thought, maybe you explain you have another problem @callumell28
But otherwise, I answered the question, and precisely, of what you were answered!
There is no option, with this type of computer, in the bios, we too often refer to an option available for laptops only!
See the different links of the macro that I created
Or, it can work using software, it is very rarely suitable
either a user, gave a solution to block the key
Either what most of us ended up doing, using another keyboard
No other possibility at this time

As @Prométhée wrote, your system does not have the option to enable Fn keys mode as the default.
According to this document from Microsoft, some HP keyboards can "lock": the Fn key on . It would have to be done every time you turn the power on.
It did not work on my Logitech K850.
I suspect HP and other OEM like Dell and Lenovo have studied this and decided that most users want quick access to sound and screen brightness. It is nice to be able to quickly mute the sound when the boss walks into your cubical to check if productive work is being done. At one time there was an app called the "boss key" that you could press and it would instantly put a spreadsheet on the screen and mute all audio.
Hope This Helps.

You have to find the right model, adapted to your use
I bought a very simple model, without FN function key
a small logitech and the special keys are simply independent
just a play/pause mute, vol + and vol - button, mail shortcut, standby/calculator
it even normally has the possibility of operating with a universal dongle
