Hi Everyone,

Need some help allowing access to the usb ports so the users can use a card reader to upload stuff to a web app we have.

The awesome way would be to be able to push this down via HP device Manager( I have v4.5) and the Thin Clients are T610 running WES7

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers,

The local user account is configured to limit access to the Z:\ only via the NoDrives policy.  See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc938267.aspx for more details.

To make life easier, there are calculators you can use to determine what this 32-bit entry should be, based on the drive letter(s) you want hidden.  An example is http://www.wisdombay.com/hidedrive/index.php.  The default for Z:\ only is 0x01ffffff (33554431).

Thanks for that. I have another question. Those links are really good but they dont mention wes7 but only winxp. Do these policies still apply? As i cannot see the nodrives policy in registry at the moment. But i have figured out that the usb ports themselved might not be blocked.

Also if it helps, HP usb state tool is set to allow access to usb ports.

Yes, these policies still apply and are still used for WES7.

Make sure you're looking at the registry for the 'User' account.  When logged in as Administrator, looking at HKCU will be the policies for the Admin account, not the User.  As Administrator, you can load the User's hive to view/modify.

That was right on the money! Awesome. Thanks so much!

Cheers,
