We may lose Beats Audio (and other Hardware functions) with future Windows Updates. A quick fix not yet mentioned in this Discussion Thread that often works is the Roll Back Driver option in Device Manager. Simply expand the listed Hardware and then right-click to get Properties, click Driver Tab, click Roll Back Driver (if not dim) for the one where Functionality was lost. In the case of Beats Audio, there might be an option to simply right-click the Microsoft Driver taking the place of your former IDT Driver under Sound. The MS replacement Driver may say something like High Definition Audio Device. Just Roll it Back if not dim. OUgrad

OUGrad,

I feel a little like Auburn in the Superdome last New Year's against our Sooners -- just when I thought I was on a comeback!

I downloaded the SP 64878 file and then double clicked it and followed the on-screen directions.  Got to the end and got the following error message, "Your system does not meet the operating system requirements.  Update has been cancelled."

I checked C;|SWSetup and there was no 64878 sub-directory created; I even went to the Windows INF subdirectory, but was honestly lost in the forrest of subdirectories

I tried it several times with the same unfortunate results

Is there some other way to get the needed INF files back?

Really do appreciate your continued assistance

Good Sooner analogy Al and it still may hold. Try these in order : (1) The Roll Back Driver option in my Post above and restart when prompted, (2) If no Roll Back Driver option, uninstall the MS Sound Driver described in my Post above from Device Manager (right-click to get uninstall) but do not restart PC. Try double clicking SP64878.exe again, (3) Still without restart, right-click SP64878.exe and select Troubleshoot Compatibility then Try Recommended Settings when offered. If you can finally get SP64878 under SWSetup, try what worked for me. (4) If still no help, just Uninstall EVERY Driver under Sound if more than one and restart PC. (5) Finally, if no help, right-click what appears to be the replacement MS Sound Driver, click Update Driver, click Search Automatically...while connected to the Internet. Let me know...OUgrad

Well, there is no joy in Norman tonight, unfortunately!

Here's what I did:

(1) The Roll Back option is grayed out

(2) I didn't see any MS sound driver (see attached screen shot)

(3) Right Clicked on Toubleshoot & Compatibility on SP 64878; after it didn't work, even tried clicking on the worked on previous Windows version {Windows 😎

(4) I am a little reluctant to uninstall every driver before checking with you

(5) Again, couldn't locate MS Sound driver

What next -- or where is the MS Sound driver??

Let's see what IDT Driver Version you have using Device Manager. Right-click IDT, click Properties, click Driver Tab and Post here. The Win 8.1 Driver Version for SP64878 is 6.10.6435.0 Rev. A. The older Win8 Driver at HP's website is SP59736, Version 6.10.6429.0 Rev. A. Double check directly under the SWSetup Folder to see if either above numbered SP Folder is there or both and advise which. Next, if you have the IDT Roll Back Driver option, click it. You will be prompted to restart and see if fixed. Post the Rolled Back Driver Version AND Provider whether it works or not. If no help, right-click IDT (or new Provider) and click uninstall. Windows will reinstall it automatically upon restart and often this will fix as well. If no help, I have more to try based on your findings above. OUgrad

P.S. Check to see if Beats is listed in your Hidden Icons - click arrowhead right side of Taskbar. If so, forget the Control Panel shortcut. Also, I just edited my above Post slightly. OUgrad

OUGrad,

Well, first off the Beats Icon is not in the Hidden Icons.

As for your previous edited post:

  • The IDT driver version: 6.10.6429.0 from IDT dated 10/12/12 and provider is IDT
  • Neither SP file is listed under SWsetup folder
  • I uninstalled the driver and rebooted and got the 6.10.6429.0 version driver back

What's next?

Open the C:\SWSetup\Drivers\Audio\WDM Folder if there. Open the most recent OS listed - mine is Vista. Type .inf in the search window upper right and let me know which Files it finds.

P.S. Al to above. Open the SWSetup Folder and type WDM (caps) in search upper right to see if there is an un-numbered Folder directly under SWSetup with the same .inf Files as hopefully found in the Drivers Path. OUgrad

OUGrad,

Either I'm doing something wrong or I'm missing something.  Here's what I found:

  • The only sub-directories under C:\SWSetup are SPXXXXX; I couldn't find the subdirecotry you wanted me to check and I have show hidden files checked
  • When I did the search of of the SWSetuo folder for WDM, I got nothing.

Just thought I'd try the C:\Windows\INF folder search for WDM; attached is the results of that search

Standing by for next action
