The machine is an HP PRO Model No. C1C76UT#ABA
It is running Windows 7 PRO 64 bit.
The problem is that when I try and login, after I have typed in the password and hit enter or hit the go button, I get a popup on the screen that appears to be from some sort of HP biometric authentication software. The little popup just sits their for a few minutes and then I get a new popup that gives me the choice of logging in without biometric authentication or waiting another ten minutes (something like that). Needless to say, I choose to login without biometric authentication and I eventually get properly logged in.
This is a desktop machine that never has had any fingerprint or other biometric attachment. The biometric authentication seems to be part of HP Protecttools. Does anybody know how to disable this thing. It is very irritating.
I have only had this problem within the last couple of weeks. My memory is vaque but I think that a few weeks ago I may have accepted a recommendation from HP that I download some HP updates.... I won't make that mistake again!
Anyway, if somebody can tell me how to disable this biometric aunthentication, I would appreciate it.

Check if you have HP client security manager installed on your PC.
If yes, open it, and go to settings.
In Setting, look for security features.
In there, you will find 2 features, Disable both of them.
Close the program now and lock your PC.
Check if the issue has gone.

Thanks for your suggestion.
As far as I can tell, HP Client Security Manager is not installed on this machine.
The biometric authentication appears to be part of HP Protecttools Security Manager. But when I poked around in HP Protecttools, I could not find anywhere the biometric authentication could be disabled.
I also found that I could not uninstall HP Protecttools Security Manager.
Having said that, somehow, my problem has resolved itself... When I login to Windows 7, I no longer get held up by the biometric authentication process. Of course it may come back since I have no idea how it got activated in the first place.
So I am still interested in some way of uninstalling or permanently disabling the biometric authentication. (And an explanation of how this would get installed and activated on a desktop machine that never had a fingerprint reader.)
