Here is a M.2 SSD drive that is supported on this computer. Installing and booting to M.2 port on this unit is supported using this part:
Here is the part number and description:
128GB solid-state drive (SSD), M.2757990-001
You work for HP you say?
You should be FIRED!
All the dumb bots like you should refrain from posting stupid, dubios messages.
The drive shoud not matter!!!
For example, would I put a Samsung 500GB mech drive or Seagate 2TB -should it matter?
The same applies to SSD drive, it is still a simple storage drive on the same SATA controller or a PCIE lane!!!

I did a clean install of Windows 10Pro on M.2 Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB.
Everything works great!
No problems with the installation.
It can work as the only storage in the PC.
! But you need either disable ‘Legacy Support’ setting
in the BIOS option 'Secure Boot Configuration'
or set to 'UEFI Only' in the BIOS option 'Storage Option ROMs'.
( Otherwise you'll see the notification 'Not bootable device' ).

Dmitry54 was able to get the appropriate M.2 drive that is supported by this system. After figuring things out for myself, I explained it in detail in another thread on this forum. In short, it is essential you understand which protocol/interface is supported by your PC when choosing M.2 drive peripherals. What HP is failing to inform you about in all of the emails the send out is this simple fact... this line of PCs support a PCIe M.2 interface. So, ensure you investigate what interface is used by the M.2 device you are considering purchasing, they only support ONE interface SATA or PCIe, not both.
I purchased the same drive Dmitry54 purchased, after checking Samsung's website and noting it was a PCIe interface, after having purchased the Samsung SSD 850 EVO and it failing to work. Later research revealed the 850 uses a SATA interface, leading to the realization HP cut corners and chose not to support BOTH interfaces on the SSD M.2 interface, as motherboards can support more than on interface on a single M.2 port.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Dmitry! BTW I'm running a solid 40C on my mini, which scales up to ~70 under close to max load. The chip should throttle if it gets too hot.

I would like to help clarify some confusion around the different interfaces used by HP and in the industry with M.2 drives
First of all, M.2 can be used with either a ahci/sata interface connetion or a pci-e connection. A pci-e slot designed for an SSD (unlike, say, a wifi card) takes up x4 speeds tos upport the high transfer rates of SSD technology
Now, HP calls a PCI-e SSD connection (Turbo Drive), and we have both PCI-e M.2 as well as true PCI-e cards available for different chassis choices.
The Desktop Mini chassis supports the following as boot media:
600 or 800 G1: M.2 PCI-e with ahci/sata connection (HP Turbo Drive G1)
600 or 800 G2: M.2 PCI-e with ahci/sata OR NVME connection (HP Turbo Drive G1 or G2)
So, a 3rd party M.2 PCI-e SSD with an ahci/sata controller will work in both G1 and G2 desktop minis, while a M.2 PCI-e SSD with a NVME controller will only work on G2 systems
Hope this help clear out confusion around what works and what does not work

Dmitry,
soccer_dan is correct in his statement.
The G1 series requires AHCI support in the M2 storage slot.
The G2 series can work with both AHCI or NVMe.
The supported M2 SSD in the 800 G1 is the 757990-001 HP part number. This is equivalent of the Samsung mz-hpu128t/0h1, also known as the XP941 - A 4 x PCIe v2.0 AHCI device.
In the next generation of Samsung M2 SSD using NVMe, the OEM SM951, which is the same chiset found in your 950 Pro, Samsung enabled both loads of the firmware in the same controller chip; AHCI and NVMe. THis new line is an evolution of their product line and firmware loads appear compatible.
This is why the Samsung branded devices work. They essentially use the same firmware family in two generations of product and appear to be compatible.
