z620 + 689471-001
Linux

I Have a issue on the workstation Z620: it had upgraded with a second CPU wich is mounted on a board model 689471-001 plus two 4GB DIMMs of RAM.

The problem is that whan the machine stars, an error appears:

942-Memory Training Error.

DIMM 3 on CPU 1 experienced an error during training (CODE 0700).

I have tried the sequent:

1) Remove the dimm on slot number 3 on the board 689471-001

Solution: same problem, same message

2) Remove the dimm on slot 3 e put it in slot 1 on the board 689471-001

Solution: same problem, same message

3) remove completly the board 689471-001

Solution: problem solved (but, of course I don't have the second CPU)

Everything seem to point on the board 689471-001 but to be sure of this (first time I see this kind of error) I'm asking to you if there is some know how about it, before changing the board of course.

P.S.: in trial 1 an 2 the is the possibility to press f1 to boot the system and, of course the system boot.

Thanks to everyone in advance !

You could try putting the DIMMs you had on the CPU1 riser board (689471-001 board)  in the motherboard.  If you get the same error, the DIMM(s) could be bad.  If there are no errors with these DIMMs, then they are probably not the problem.

If there is a bent pin in the riser board CPU socket, it could cause this error.  If you remove the CPU, be careful, then clean off the old thermal paste on the CPU and heatsink and put new thermal paste on them before installing the heatsink.
