Hi everyone,

I have recently done a full recovery on my HP m7377a? I don't know if this is connected to the question or not, but thought I better mention it.

I have noticed that some of my folder Icons in my C: drive (and maybe elsewhere) have change to a lighter colour almost like they are transparent.

What I would like to know, is why and what does it mean?

When I click on them they appear to open as normal. But I don't know if the folders and files are okay, as I don't know what they are for or what they do.

Big Thanks for any assistance you can provide

Cheers

Sid

Hello,

I believe what you are seeing are folders for the Operating System and should normally be hidden folders so as not to be confused as program or user folders lest it be deleted accidentally.

Something like this can happen if the Folder Options on your system for "Hide protected Operating System Files" was configured to be revealed.

I recommend that you put this back on default and hide it again from any user. To put the folders back to normal you may follow the guide from this link: http://www.ehow.com/how_2289529_view-hidden-system-files-windows.html instead of unchecking the option you may want to choose Restore Defaults then, hit Apply.

Can you make a screen shot of what you are seeing and post it here? A picture is worth a thousand words. 🙂

Here is how that can be done

Hello Erico,

Great Idea learn something new every day, I have sent four screen shots, to show better the extent of it.

These odd colour folders, when opened some of them the files inside if not most sometimes are the correct colour (not transparent like)

Hope you can shed some light.

Many Thanks

Sid

Hi,

Right click any of the lighter colored folder and select properties. Look at the attributes to see that they are not marked hidden or compressed.

Do the same thing to a normally colored folder right next to it and note the differences.

erico
