Hi ogDnice,
A bigger base has a lot of advantages; more fans, better air dispersion, room for additional hardware and normally will accept longer PCI-E cards. You probably will not need a bigger case if you choose PCI-E cards that will fit.

Just get an Xclio Greatpower equal I did. They only ship to computervalley Modular pants, Color certified/active pfc 85%+ efficiency certified, PCIE connectors, mountain of molax's/sata's. They got everything.. Mine came with 4 6pin PCIE connectors. For any 1 or 2 cards Xclio is the way to go.

It seems I need to replace the power supply in a Pavilion 761c desktop.
I bought a Diablotek DA 300. It does NOT have a fan facing the rear like the included power supply does.
Do I need a PS with a rear facing fan?
Can I use this one (the DA 300)?
and if so, do I point the fan up or down?
Thanks.

Hi Clark-PC,
You are going to need a 24 to 20 pin adapter to use with most power supplies as the motherboard in your PC only has a 20 pin ATX header.
Open up your PC and measure the physical dimensions of the existing power supply. Also, what is the HP part number on the power supply?

Hi beta_tester,
Read this posted article for replacing the power supply in your PC. Look just prior to step 1 at the location of the power cord input. Be sure to choose a PSU that doesn't cause an issue with the tap tab.

Many thanks for the response Dave.
I am also going to get another case, move everything to it and keep the HP quality in one place but with all the extras I would like 🙂
I just got a hipper 580w psu on gumtree for £10 virtually new in its case (black label).
Really appreciate your response.
Kind regards john

...a long thread wit a lot of questions and info. Perhaps mine also fits in.
I have a Compaq SG3-250SC. As I understand it, the power unit is only on 180 w (!!!!). Now I have put in another graphics card. Recomended powersupply is 300w. So far everytning looks normal. Not very hot, no extreme speed on fan.
What could happen if it really is to weak? Can anything except the powerunit be destroyed?
Should I replace the powerunit?

Hi
Whilst I am no means an expert I know that the graphic card would not draw 300w if placed into a computer 🙂
My own card for example has a recommendation of a 450w power supply for some reason but in reality draws 20w at idle and a maximum of 46w under load. It depends on the power that your graphics card would draw under load to be honest. I have always taught (and was taught) you cannot have too big a power supply. However make sure it is a quality one as there are some that claim really high power but in reality under load are less than 70% of what they claim. Hope this helps.
Kind regards john
