For all those posting on this thread take note.

Unless your PC has a HP version 8 BIOS then don't expect the NVIDIA GTX 7xx or 9xx graphics cards to work.  There may be some exceptions.

So I cant just get and install Bios 8 I take it? It has to be on a certain type of MB only?

@kdtaylor611

Look at the BIOS updates for your particular PC.  If yuo don't see a vrsion 8 BIOS update then look for a different graphics card.  The NVIDIA GTX 660 or 660TI and a 600 watt power supply would be a good match.

So I have bios v. 8.20 for my IPIWB-PB Pittsburgh2 (in my 810-150se machine). I tried upgrading to a 980ti video card, and am getting the same problem as otheres here. So if you DO have a version 8 BIOS update, is there something else I also need to do to get this working?

I wish I knew what to tell you. My issue was for a 700 series video card. Let me know if you figure something out, though I guess it doesnt matter for me. There is still no bios 8 for my MB.

Hi,

Ouch!

Just purchased a GTX 960 and will install today.

Also have the same system as you, sirhcdlanodcm. I guess I am in for pain, anguish, and having to return the product to EVGA.

Did you disable secure boot, enable legacy boot and uninstall the current graphics drivers before installing the 980ti?

I also have the latest and last BIOS (8.20) version installed which HP will probably issue for this model , so there is no room for hope.

I guess installing this new graphics card today is going to be an exercise in futility!

This is very discouraging.

Not sure this will help (or at least help you figure out youre wasting your time maybe) but I found this on one of the threads I posted.

http://forums.evga.com/Older-PC-with-GT-740-4GB-GDDR5-is-there-any-way-to-make-this-work-m2358709.as...

"EVGA may have a non-uefi vbios that could be flashed to the card. That should make it work if evga has a non-uefi vbios for the card. You would need to flash the card in a computer that allows it to run in it's current state."

Good luck.

Hi,

By the way, you should have created a new post as your problem is different than the problem in this post.

To sirhcdlanodcm.

Installed GTX 960 4GB OC card on Envy 810-150se.

It works!!

Disable secure boot, enable legacy boot, and uninstall all Nvidia drivers before installing the new graphics card.

I had to uninstall every version of Nvidia driver updates ever installed on the PC. It took about six or seven uninstalls and reboots to clear all Nvidia software. I could not believe it. All of the older driver versions were still hiding in the operating system. You uninstall one version of Nvidia, reboot, then check installed programs and you find another, older version of Nvidia drivers. I had thought Nvidia driver updates would uninstall the previous driver when updating the system. This does not appear to happen.

So you have to keep checking "Programs and Features" to ensure no Nvidia software is still hanging around before you install the new graphics card.

Happily running GTX 960.

Cheers!
