I just purchased a brand new HP system that came with an HP 2310m monitor that I'm having some display issues with, namely the massive border of blank space on either side of nearly every web page I visit.

For example, my blog page is literally no more than a 7" strip down the center of the screen, with 6.5" of blank "border" area on either side.  The text is tiny & so are my photos.  I just upgraded to this brand new system with a 23" monitor, yet the display on my previous 21" monitor was far larger.  I've tried everything I know to do to fix this issue because I love the look of this monitor & the picture quality.  Unfortunately, I'm about to tear my hair out.   The header bar & status bar stretch all the way across the screen, it's simply the content on the web pages that is shrunken down so far that it actually makes it a bit headache-inducing to read & view.

I've checked resolution (set at 1920x1080), font size, checked for & downloaded the latest drivers, etc - I would assume that the scaling option in the monitor menu is probably what I need to fix this issue & I cannot access it, which from some reading I've done seems to be a common theme.

Does anyone have any suggestions how I can fix this issue?  It's quite frustrating to have this large monitor & to have it only use up approximately 7" of space across the very center of the screen.

Thanks for the links, Big Dave.

This is the only place I've posted except for a comment on another thread.  ???

I've spent several hours scouring the web & the HP help forums/troubleshooting & I think I've gone through every single one of those articles & none of them actually address my particular issue.  It's not an issue of display QUALITY, but rather display SIZE. It's that web pages are not scaled to fit my monitor size & I cannot find a way to change this.  It's absurd to have a 23" monitor that utilizes 7" of screen space.  I really don't understand WHY this can't be changed or why the "custom scaling" option is greyed out in the monitor menu.

Did you install the monitor driver?

Did you try that latest video card driver from the video card manufacturer's web site?

Try a monitor reset. Unplug the monitor and then hold down the monitor's power button for 30 seconds.  Plug the monitor back in a see what happens.

If the PC and monitor are still under waranty then contact HP support.

HP's support number is 800-474-6836 or 800-HPINVENT or online here.

What cabling method are you using? (HDMI,DVI, VGA)  Are you using any adapters?

I have installed the monitor driver.

I have checked for and installed all updates/drivers available for the monitor & for the video card.

I have reset the monitor.

I have reset the monitor to factory specifications.

The computer & monitor both came out of the box day before yesterday, so yes, they are still under warranty.

I'm using DVI, not using any adapters.
