We recently got two HP EliteDesk 705 G1 Mini Desktop PCs for use as single-purpose Point of Sale workstations and we set up both identically except for the computer names. The first one has been flawless but the second one works fine only until it's idle for an extended time ("extended" meaning hours, not days). When we wake it to use it we get a black screen with the text:
IDE device failed
F1: boot
After pressing F1 the display (still black) changes to:
non-system disk or disk error
replace and strike any key when ready
I've set the Power Options to turn off the display and "never" put the computer to sleep but it still goes to sleep. Via online tech forums I learned that opening the case and reseating the SSD connector then closing the case will let it boot and run but after an idle period the same scenario plays out. On the bench I've tested leaving the case open and this had no effect. I swapped the SSD between the two and the trouble stayed with the same PC. I've checked BIOS, chipset drivers and storage drivers and all are up to date.
What else should I look for?
