HP Envy 20 Black Screen On Startup

Hello TomLaf,

The BIOS version 8.16 Rev A executable file is in the Windows 8 option (try this link http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-ENVY-20-d100-TouchSmart-All-in-One-Desktop-PC-ser...

Responding to the difficulty in finding the BIOS version 8.16 Rev A executable file on the HP Software and Drivers website, I have prepared a step-by-step guide to find the BIOS version 8.16 Rev A executable file on the HP Software and Drivers website. Please send an e-mail to my gmail account (hikarikenkyuujo) if you would like to have the guide. Thanks!

Best regards,
Chris

Chris,

Your link takes me to a response on the HP website stating the following:

HP Envy 20 Black Screen On Startup

Hello TomLaf,

My e-mail is [Personal Information Removed.

The following is a general guide to anyone who needs this information.

1. Basically, what you have to do on the HP support website is to click on the "Search all support" label and select "Software, Drivers and Updates" then enter the name and model number of your computer in the textbox (as you type a complete name and model of your computer will appear right below the textbox, click on it and it will bring you to the appropripate website). [Sometimes, the system will prompt you to enter the model number of your computer again.]

2. Click on the "Go" icon right under the "Go directly to the software and driver results" label.

3. Click on "Select operating system" and select "Microsoft Winddows"

4. Click on "Select version" and select "Microsoft Winddows 8"

5. Click on the "Update" icon.

6. Scroll down and you will find a list of item.

7. Click on "BIOS (4)" and you will find "HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 2AE5) 8.16 Rev.A 4.3 MB Mar 19, 2015"

8. Click onn "Download 64-bit"

There it is!

If there is any further query, please feel free to contact me. Thanks!

Best regards,
Chris

HP Envy 20 Black Screen On Startup

good for u! glad your machine is back up and running. it def has something to do with the windows 10 operating system and the hp mobo bios, altho it doesnt always happen right away. some like myself have gone months before the black screen starts. but with my pc not covered under warranty and hearing HP and even local computer stores tell me it was the motherboard that was bad or it was the LCD that was bad and it was going to be $300 or 400$ to fix, or it not even be cost effective to fix. but i just knew deep down in my heart of hearts that it wasnt hardware failure, the mobo or lcd. that it had to be something else. so i prodded these and other forums for a few weeks and came across Chris_Gillian too with some of the things he said to try, the one that worked being the cmos/bios reset. altho i had to do it soo many times i lost count before one time it just suddenly worked and i was back in business and than as soon as i was back online i updated the BIOS like he mentioned and i havent had a single issue since. His info is awesome and this forum saved me over 400$ for either a bogus repair that wasnt needed or even more on a new computer. Thank you for all the help and im glad it is still helping people

HP Envy 20 Black Screen On Startup

Hello TomLaf,

Excellent! So happy for you, TomLaf!

Please ensure that all the drivers are compatible with Windows 10 to avoid running into the sticky Blue Screen of Death problem whereby the operating system will have to be completely reinstalled.

Please take note that rolling back to the original operating system by doing a system recovery will wipe out the recovery data on the UEFI boot sector and caused the Blue Screen of Death problem too when the computer reboots; I suspect this is due to a conflict of the Ralink RT3290 wifi card driver.

In any case, please create a set of system recovery discs (6-7 discs) and take note of the product key of the operating system and keep these safe.

It is always a good practice to backup your data and create an image file of your drive or clone your drive. Just in case you have not already known, you can use clonezilla to clone or create an image recovery file; clonezilla is freeware and you can download it from http://clonezilla.org/downloads.php.

Best regards,
Chris
