On the below page there is a BIOS update listed for my model desktop for use on Windows 10, eg: HP Pavilion Desktop - 500-405nd
HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 2B29)
A0.11 Rev.A 5.6 MB Feb 27, 2016
This package provides an update to the HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS (ROM Family 2B29) for supported models running a supported operating system
File name: sp74558.exe
Release details
Released: Jan 19, 2016
Version A0.11 Rev.A
Once i download and try to open it, the option to update my BIOS is grayed out, the only options available are to make a USB stick or to copy the bios file (advanced users)
Msinfo32 reports my current bios as: Version 80.20 dated 31-10-2014
I found this file on one of my disks:
File name: sp70923.exe
Release details
Released: Mar 17, 2015
Version 80.20 Rev.A

Use the "copy BIOS to any file location" option.
Choose C:\downloads as the place to save it or another location, such as the desktop.
Exit Windows and power down the desktop.
Press the start button and begin tapping the F2 key to invoke the PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI environment.
Choose Firmware Management at the first menu.
Update the BIOS and point the utility to the location where you saved the BIOS ROM file and committ to the update.
Do not turn off the PC until the update is complete.

So you have pathed to the save location and looked for it?
You may have to decrypt the BIOS files as described in the following tutorial.

Yes, I browsed to the location I saved the bios file (on a USB stick in my case)
If I select that file, eg: 'BEE_A011.bin' the above screen is displayed and the new version number is labeled as being version 00.00, I am a bit afraid to continue, last thing i like to do is to brick my motherboard

I created a recovery USB stick as described in that tutorial, allthough opening the bios file with that andy tool did not give an RSA.SIG file and a .DEC file
The recovery filename andy tool returns is exactly the same as the bios file name.
So with this recovery USB stick i tried recovering the bios (just to test if it worked)
Recovery went smooth so in case of a disaster the USB stick would save me, right?
Now i tried updating to the new A0.11 Rev.A Bios again, i started my system, pressed F2
Firware management, Update bios, Browse to 'BEE_A011.bin' and choose 'Apply update now'
Within a second i got this screen:
Why is this happening, why won't it update....File name: sp74558.exe Version A0.11 Rev.A is listed on the support page of my pr0duct??????

HP's Engineers name the softpaqs and versions of files and that is certainly not something that a volunteer would know or have control of.
Just consider it one of those mysterious things in life that you can't change.
