Hello walt970,
I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/ .
I hope this helps.

Hello all,
If you're unable to uninstall the HP Support Assistant, please try to use the Microsoft Fix it tool to uninstall it.
The link to Microsoft Fix it: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_uninstall
Let me know if this helps!
Thank you 🙂

Hello Miguyelc. I understand Support Assistant is not working yet. So I can check if there is a supported Support Assistant for your computer, I need the model number of the computer. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108
Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. I'm only here to help!

Hi Sparkles1,
after uninstalling and then reinstalling the hp support assistant the error persists. From what I can observe on the web I'm not the only one that has this problem that cannot be solved in the way you proposed.
Any other suggestion?
Please align to your colleague answer http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/Hp-Support-Assistant-Not-Workin... or give a really effective solution.
Regards.
Roman
PD: meanwhile I uninstalled the application checking for updates manually.

I cannot install the new version because my system will not uninstall the old version. Message says a file is misisng from the install directory. Any suggestions on how to get the uninstall working?
When I try to run the installed HPSA I get this error in debug:
System.TypeInitializationException was unhandled
Message: An unhandled exception of type 'System.TypeInitializationException' occurred in WindowsBase.dll
Additional information: The type initializer for 'HP.SupportAssistant.UIController.Windows.HPAMainVM' threw an exception.
Seems like there must be a miscommunication between 8.1 and the HP code.
