TouchSmart 520-1030
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I updated to Windows 10 when it first came out and had no issues. Now, out of nowhere, my WiFi is not recognized. We only moved the location of the PC less than 3 feet and are fairly cettsin we did not accidentally push the WiFi button to turn it off. The PC connects to the network through a wired cable and the wireless network is recognized on every other device. Please help.

Network adapter - Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.

Hardware ID - PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_2AC3103C&REV_06

Also, there is a USB plugged into the back where the computer has the WiFi logo. We've never messed with that before or pushed in the WiFi button to turn it off.

Hi @mbenshoof4917,

Thanks for becoming a member of the HP Support Forums. I understand you are having an issue with the network connection. I will be glad to help you.

Can you please confirm if the computer is setup wired or wireless.

If the computer is wired the wireless radio is automatically turned off.

If wireless let me know and I will help.

The computer is plugged in to the router wired right now and it works. The network isn't recognized when I go wireless, which is my question/problem. All other devices we have do not have trouble recognizing the network wirelessly.

Hi @mbenshoof4917,

Thanks for getting back to me.

To test the wireless you will need to disconnect the ethernet cable.

The following pages are helpful when troubleshooting wireless connectivity issues.
Troubleshooting wireless network and Internet (Windows 10)

Also, you can look at the power management for your wireless adapter:
Disable the Power Off option for the adapter:
1. Open Device Manager. (Win Key+R > type devmgmt.msc > OK)
2. Expand the Network adapters.
3. Right click on the Ethernet/Wireless Adapter and click Properties.
4. Click the Power Management tab.
5. Remove the check mark beside Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
6. Click OK.
7. Test.

Forget Wireless Network Profiles in Windows 10

Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:
1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
2. Right-click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.
3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.
4. Restart your PC and test.

It may also help to reset the Winsock catalogue:
1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
2. Right-click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.
3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.
4. Restart your PC and test.

Reinstall the network adapter drivers:
1. Download the drivers from here but do not run them yet.
2. Go to your start screen/menu and type Device Manager.
3. Expand Network adapters.
4. Right click on the wireless adapter and choose Uninstall.
5. Run the downloaded drivers from step 1.
6. Restart your PC and test.

Please keep me informed of how things went.

Can you provide me a link as to where I can download the drivers? I was sent to tweakbit.net from your site and it downloaded something that scanned and said my drivers were out of date, but then asked me to subscribe monthly to be able to update. These should be free, should they not?

Also, the first two solutions provided did not work.

Hi @mbenshoof4917,

HP does not support Windows 10 drivers,  You can try installing the Windows 8.1 Realtek Network Controller Driver.

Note: the link will start the download.

Please keep me informed how things go.

The link did not start the download. I uninstalled my current driver after manually finding and downloading the driver myself, then I tried installing and it said my desktop does not meet the system requirements (I'm assuming because I have upgraded to Windows 10 and the driver is for Windows 8 - so they're incompatible).

I was able to get my old Network Adapter installed again, thankfully, by going into the device manager again and scanning the system for recent hardware changes (it popped back up there at that point).
