You must use DVI-D Dual link or Display port for best resolution...

I have the HP ZR30w

I purchased a specially built HP Pavilion dv7 to work with the HP Monitor

I'm using the HDMI out from my Laptop going to the DVI-D Connector input on the ZR30w

The best I can get is 1280 x 800

I also have a DisplayPort Connector on my ZR30w but everyone I've talked to says going from the HDMI on my HP laptop to the DisplayPort Connector on my ZR30w will net 1920 at best.

I've talked to 4 different HP Support Specialist but none of them seem to have a clue.

I've seen the talk about using a MiniDisplay Port to a DisplayPort but the HP doesn't have a MiniDisplay Port. Only and HDIM and VGA out.

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks,

Updating my question...
Last night I purchased an Adapter that converts HDMI to DisplayPort. Plugged in the adaptor to my HP ZR30w and plugged the HDMI in to my laptops. Hoping to get the higher resoultion but I get absolutely nothing. None of my 3 HP laptops recognize that there is a monitor connected when I use the DisplayPort..

So still looking for help. Wish I had never purchased this HP monitor.

Thanks,

I have the same problem.  I am using DVI and have a max resolution of 1280X800.  Very disapointed.

Very similar problem, I have an HP HDX18 with NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M graphics card.

I only had the option of using the HDMI port.(no dvi/display port)

Firstly the laptop was not recognised whilst using HDMI to display port vable

Monitor functions with HDMI to DVI cable at only 1280 x 800

After months and hours on the phone with HP "experts" I found out the Pavilion dv7 top of the line that HP built for me specifically to work with the monitor doesn't support that resolution. I also have an HDX18 same answer. I ended up buying another machine that does support the higher resolution and it works great.

The HP Laptops make good door stops though.

I just purchased 32 HP ZR30w monitors and am unable to achieve resolution above 1280 x 800. They are attached to HP Z820 workstations via dual DVI connectors. Any help would be highly appreciated.

I've had a HP ZR30w for roughly a year and periodically have problems attaining and keeping the monitor in 2560x1600. I use the monitor with Mac and PC laptops. With the PC, I'm connecting with a Display Port-to-Display Port cable. The Macs use a Mini Display Port-to-Display Port cable.

With the Macs, the monitor occasionally drops back to something like 1280x1080. This usually occurs when connecting a laptop to the monitor after I've been using it elsewhere - 2560x1600 just doesn't appear in the options. Unplugging and replugging the monitor cable in sometimes works, sometimes not. It can be really frustrating. I think, in my case, it comes down to the cable. I think they are just not created equal. After being stuck for quite a while earlier today I finally swapped to a new cable. It started working immediately.

I can't speak to dual-link DVI connections as I don't use them. Hope this helps someone.

Use all cables and devices that support a Dual Link signal(as mentioned above).  Most likely your cable is Single Link DVI only.  I had the same issue with multiple devices in the chain. When I replaced the single link devices with dual link everything worked great.  I talked to tech support after about an hour and they said that everything in the chain should be dual link.

Horrible job on HP for designing this monitor and not at least putting in a mode select to switch between Single or Dual Link.
