I have the same monitor and it has had the same problem since purchase a few years ago. (I should have reported it during warranty).

The problem is usually seen when logging off one user and switching it to another.  It displays for a second and goes out. The power light is on and one cannot get the monitor to go into setup. Not going into set up proves it is a monitor issue.

The workaround is to turn the monitor off for a couple of minutes. Then turn it back on.

Also it can happen when the computer goes into power save. I move the mouse of hit the key before turning the monitor on.

To me it seem to be more of a design glitch with teh monitor.  It seem common.

it is most likely one of the backlight bulbs have a wire burnt off one end... all they are is small florescent lights bulbs.. there is four of them, two on top and two on the bottom of the screen.. they can be repaired but they are very fragile screen bulbs and all.. be careful

It happens with Vista and continued with Windows 7. Dirver update did not help.

This is probably getting to you way past the time you can use the info, however this might help you or others.

I had a similar problem with an HP W1907 Monitor.  After it had been on for awhile ( approx 8 or so minutes); it would go

to a black screen.  The power light would still be lit, but no display.  To get the display going I would have to power it down and wait approx 3-5 minutes to get another 8 minutes use.  Really aggravating.  I figured out rather quickly that it was probably due to a heat problem.  What took some time to figure out was the very thing that makes the monitor so great, is probably it's achilles heel.  That being it's high brightness/contrast.  Something in this circuitry, or something that is affected by this circuit, is malfunctioning.  If I turned down the brightness and contrast settings, I could effectively extend the usable time the display was active to about 40 minutes while still having the display acceptable in appearance.  I realize this may not work for you(may not be your particular problem) but it sure sounds familiar.  Now the only problem would be if the component or whatever is causing this particular problem; is so far gone that you don't have the luxury I did by having it work for at least 5 or more minutes.  Granted this is only a short term solution, and not permanent by any means.  I am also going to install a mini fan(about 2" in dia) to the case and see if that helps further extend the usability of the monitor.  If not, oh well.  If the component dies completely then at least I will know what needs to maybe be replaced,   Like I said hope this helps somebody.

The monitor was a poor design. It goes to sleep when logging off or during a normal inactive time. It will not turn on until you turn it off for  1 - 2 minutes. then turn it on

My final solution was to replace it with  a $99 22 inch LCD from Tiger Direct.

Problem solved.

It's funny to see a thread from nearly 5 years ago pop up every once in a while!

About the monitor in question: I've had it in storage for a couple of years. Then I decided to try it and it worked and has worked for over a year.

Funny, huh!
