Hello,

 

I'm on Windows 8.1 pro and i boot in UEFI mode.


I want to install Docker on my PC. But, when i turn on the VM in Oracle Virtual box, an error occurs: "VT-x is not avalaible. (verr_vmx_no_vmx)"


I put enabled VT-x and VT-d in BIOS (and more other parameters).

I installed the Hyper-V Windows component.

I tried multiple configurations


But my computer have an UEFI bios, and i think it's the cause of my problems (maybe).

If i'm uncheck "enble IO-AIPC" in VM parameters, the problem occurs in Linux, when he start.

If i'm check "enable EFI" in VM, Linux won't boot.

Could you help me.

I see you do have VirtualBox installed. 

 

Does it work with other operating systems? 

 

The Oracle Virtualbox forum is probably the best place to inquire about this. That is where I go if I am having problem with my virtual lab setup. Didg deep in there. There is a wealth of information and tutorials in the VirtualBox Community forum on using VirtualBox in many configurations. YouTube is also a great source for information on VirtualBox configuration and setup. 

 

The workstation having a UEFI environment does not have anything to do with the issue while using virtualization. An EFI  file partition on the hard drive is what the BIOS looks for in a realtime boot environment on a GPT formatted hard disk for a specific operating system.

 Docker is pretty interesting. Have you seen the video tutorial that describes how to set it up in Windows?

Yes, i have a compaq portable (win7) and i can use Docker on it.

Just enabled VT-x in BIOS and all is OK.

 

No, it's not an oracle VM problem.

I have problems too.

In option 1: i have this message "this kernel requires an x86-64 cpu but only detected an i686 cpu" and i can't close the VM.

In option 2: I can't start the VM.

 

I'm on it since 2 days and i red a lot of sources.

Doesn't your z440 workstation have a Xenon CPU?

All Xenon CPU products have  x64 support, so that actually is a non issue.

 

It is a VirtualBox settings problem.

 

If Docker works on your HP z440, that proves there is something wrong with the way VirtualBox has been configured.

It is a software problem.

 

A workstation is not an ordinary desktop PC.  It has far more power and capabilities than a normaL desktop PC .
