Hi Paul,

Sorry I know it's Sunday but I wanted to make sure that this driver link you sent me. I really appreiate you help. Your the only person on the net that has any info or help.

http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/30520/en-us

This above says nForce 720a -GeForce 8100

Is the right one for nForce 720a chipset even though I only need the to update the  NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Ethernet driver?

Because I also found this driver

But this one also listed.    http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/14875/en-us

They both say compatible with GeForce 8100 motherboard next to nForce 720a  I dont' have a Geforce 8100 mother board. Can I still use (which driver top link or bottom link) will run because my motherboard is not compatible.

You're very welcome.

You can use either one you choose.

The first link you posted is the latest driver for the 720a chipset your PC has.

The other one you posted will also work, but it is an older version.

Either one will update the ethernet driver to a level that W7 will accept to proceed with upgrading.

So take your pick.

Hi Paul,

It will install even though I don't have a Nvidia 8100 motherboard that it says in conjunction next to nForce 720a under supported products? My Southbridge says nForce 720a MCP--Do I need a different driver for the Southbridge?

Sorry again, it will only install the Ethernet Driver even though my PC has none of the other stuff? I have OCD, thats why I'm asking again.

Thanks for getting back to me so soon.  I'm worried about the GeForce 8100 since I don't have that motherboard(see top sentence)

My motherboard is manufacturer is Pegatron Corporation. Model Viola. But does have nforce 720a northbridge and nforce 720a MCP for southbridge.

As I wrote...you can use either one.

They both have support for a lot of hardware your specific PC doesn't have.

And as I have wrote before...each hardware component has a unique identifyer called a hardware ID.

A driver cannot install unless it has the programming that includes the hardware ID for the device it supports.

I'm thinking your PC has the 730a chipset since it has the GeForce 8200 graphics, so I don't see why the newer driver I posted wouldn't work just fine.

nForce 7 Series:

nForce 760i SLI, nForce 740i SLI, nForce 730i/Geforce 9400/9300, nForce 720i, nForce 780a SLI, nForce 750a SLI, nForce 740a SLI, nForce 730a/GeForce 8300/8200, nForce 720a - GeForce 8100, nForce 710a

Your PC has the NVIDIA GeForce 8200 graphics according to the specs below...

http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-Elite-d5000-ATX-Desktop-PC-series/3750358/model/3750...

In any event a driver cannot install on hardware unless it has the same hardware ID supported by the driver.

Hi Paul,

I have run CPU-Z program that is telling me that I have Northbridge Nforce 720a chipset and Nforce 720a MPC southbridge and a Nvidia Geforce GT 610 graphics card.  So am I still good to go?  I'm so sorry that I keep asking in different ways.  But PC does not have any of the graphics cards like GeForce 8200 which on the spec page says that GeForce 8200 is a chipset.

I thought GeForce 8200 was a chipset? It says this on this page http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c01459310 that the chipset is a GeForce 8200 which it doesn't according to the CPU-Z program that I use shows me that I have nForce 720a chipset and has a Geforce GT 610 graphics card.

Paul I'm so sorry for all this I just want to make sure everything works. Can you still reply to me. I would greatly appreicate it.

You're still good to go with the later driver I posted.
