HDD is like a light bulb, it can die anytime specially when dealing with heat specially when playing games or doing high graphics works. Did the test produce a 24-charactor code ? If yes then sadly to say: Most of the time the 24 char failure id indicates the HDD is failing and need to be replaced.

Is it still under warranry ? If Yes, please call HP for a replacement.

I do not do ANY of this - heat specially when playing games or doing high graphics works.  No, it is oout of warranty as of 10/2016.  I have had other HP pc's in the past,, ran for years, this i my 3rd one and probably my last.  Going to switch to DELL!!
