Hello @AddyRydis,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand that you getting the "Input Signal Out Of Range" error when trying to connect your PS3 to your HP Compaq LA2205wg Monitor and are seeking assistance. The reason the error you posted is asking you to change to 1680 x 1050 60Hz is because according page 16 of the that is the HP Compaq LA1905wl, LA1905wg, LA2205wg, LA2205wl, LA22f, LA2405wg, and LA2405x LCD Monitors User Gui... Maximum and Optimum Graphic Resolution for that monitor. As the PS3 can support resolutions 1920x1080 I suspect that your PS3 is not set to a resolution that your monitor can handle.
I believe if you hold the power button on your PS3 down at start up until you hear the second beep it will reset the video settings. This should solve your issue.

Hello @Knight777Fusion,
I understand that you are having the same issue on your HP Compaq LA2205wg 22-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor being connected to your PS3. I would say follow the same solution just your monitor has a resolution of 1680 x 1050 @ 60 Hz.
I hope this helps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
