Ray,

All of those PCs referenced probably have the bios level that you found.  I suspect that HP doesn't have the resources to do regression testing on the other PCs with the same motherboard.

Sure. But some users (like me) would be willing to throw the BIOS on anyways and test it ourselves.

Here is the procedure to extract your BIOS. If you have the 5.43 BIOS please post it here or send me a PM with the link:

To extract your BIOS ROM, you need to download this utility called "AFUWIN" here:

http://www.ami.com/support/downloads/amiflash.zip

Once you've extracted the folder, browse to:

amiflash\amibios\afuwin\

There you will see a folder called 64 and another folder called 32. If you're running a 64 bit windows click the 64, if you're running a 32 bit windows, click the 32.

Run the program "AFUWIN.exe" or "AFUWINx64.exe"

Then in the bottom right corner, click "save" and type "5.43" as the file name and click OK.

this will backup your BIOS to a file called "5.43.ROM". Please upload the file to a file host such as www.rapidshare.com or www.megaupload.com.

Ray,

What is your plan if the bios loads and dies?

Follow AMI BIOS recovery procedures I suppose.

Would that mean having a floppy drive?

From what I have seen it can be done from a CD/DVD.

You can use CD instead of floppy. Don't put the .exe on disc open the execute with WinRAR or 7zip. The ROM should be name BEN5.32 or something similar. For AMI's default recovery rename the ROM to AMIBOOT.ROM the drive should access it from 2-5mins then beep 4 times then reboot. If it doesn't want to read for some reason you can force it by holding down Ctrl+Home at the same time. If it still doesn't work here is a little inside BIOS knowledge for HP you can try. Open up the ROM in a hex editor and search for ROM or BIN the name you find will be the name the Boot Block is searching for so rename the ROM to that name and repeat the steps above. For IPIBL-LB specifically the name should be HPBIOS.ROM. Another tip is always flash from DOS instead of Windows. Hope this helps.

Please be careful when flashing your BIOS. You can break your motherboard.

Post back your results.

That is strange, a BIOS flash shouldn't change your model or serial number.
