I have had this computer now for many years. It has been working great for all my needs. There is this one problem, start-up. I have installed now 2 different ssd hard-drives, a plextor px-128M5S, it worked great for quite a while, except for this problem. I replaced it with a PNY CS1311 240GB SSD, it works great with the same problem.
The computer starts up go to some blue-ish type screen and complains it doesn't have something correct as in the boot drive. ( I can't remember exactly what it does but this is close. This is due to what I have to do to get it started.) To get this machine to actually start, I must tap the escape key and then get into the 'boot from' screen then select sata0 drive and then it boots correctly. This is a pain especially if the machine reboots overnight, it will be shut right off, if I am not right here to go to the 'boot from' screen.
I have been waiting for HP to have a new bios to use that allows booting from ssd drives. I did use a 40GB Intel ssd at one time and it seemed to work. But not since installation of the larger ssd drives.
Need some sort of fix or help with what to do in the bios.
original 8GB of ddr3 to 24GB of ddr3
replacement of DVD-CDRW drive to an HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH12LS38
There is also an issue with my replacement BD-DVD-CDRW drive, after the machine has been on for a while the drive is no longer available for use. As if the bios has forgotten it. But back after a complete reboot.
