This is a new monitor (1920x1200 px) on a desktop pc, that replaces a 1280x1024 monitor.

I have an application that should be used in the 1280/1024 aspect ratio, but gets stretched on the new L2445m. The Image Control=> Custom Scaling (and Sharpness) monitor menu items are dimmed/grayed out. Why is this and how can I get the to change the scaling? The pc video adapter also does not offer any method to change the scaling for applications.

regards...Chris

I believe you will also find that once you use a non-native resolution, the Image Control Option will be un-greyed. Then you can select Fill to Aspect if it is still stretched.

The native resolution is "1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz".  Therefore, this is the resolution that gives you the best picture possible.  I believe that HP eliminates the items that are greyed to save numerous calls to Customer Service when someone doesn't know what they are doing.  There are far more users that don't understand how to adjust a monitor, than like me and you.  This is my opinion.

But I am not trying to change the resolution, just the aspect ratio of an application's window. Please read my post.

Imagine that an application is intended to run at an aspect ration of 1:1.25, and when run on a wide-screen monitor is displayed at an aspect ratio of 1:1.6. In this case the application's window is stretched horizontally, making ovals out of circles.

When I run this application on my HP wide-screen laptop I could change the aspect ratio to make the application display aspect ratio of 1:1.25 (both left and right edges were black).

That is what I want to do with this monitor, and there is a monitor setting to do this (according to the user guide). So why can't I access it? Is it because this monitor is the m model?

Did you try changing the video resolution from the PC to 1280 x 1024 before running this particular application? When I change my resolution from 1920 x 1080 to this, then I do get a smaller desktop with side letterbox.
