Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP Desktop PC and it dies not boot into Windows and an error appears saying no boot disk has been detected or failed.

I would like to know if any changes (hardware or software) took place on the PC  after which this issue may have started. Also, please let me know the exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l. Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Please ensure that there is no disk in the DVD drive and disconnect USB devices from the PC.
  • Press and hold the power button fo the PC until it powers off.
  • Disconnect all cables from the PC (including the power cable).
  • Press and hold the power button of the PC for 15 seconds and then release it.
  • Then connect only the keyboard, mouse, monitor and power cable and power on the PC.

If the issue still persists. then please perform the steps as described in detail from this link: http://hp.care/2f7JAVA.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know. All the best! 🙂

Thanks for replying with the information. 🙂

Please try to disable the Secure boot and enable the Legacy support from BIOS. This link should help to do that: http://hp.care/2g6hOrm

Even after disabling the secure boot and enablong the Legacy support, if the issue persists then perform a BIOS recovery

Let me know the results. Cheers! 🙂

These are the symptoms of a "dying" disk-drive -- sometimes it works, and sometimes it does not work.

If you can get it to start up "one last time", take an external disk-drive, and copy all your files/music/pictures/bookmarks to that disk-drive, to make a backup copy.

Then, take the computer to a qualified computer technician.

He/she should be able to "clone" your disk-drive onto a brand-new disk-drive, and then install the new disk-drive, to replace the current disk-drive.

Compare this to changing to a new purse -- all the contents get moved from one purse to another.

Cost: $50 to $70 US for the technician's time & skill, and about the same for a brand-new disk-drive.

However, if your computer is still covered by the manufacturer's "warranty" (typically 12 months), contact the manufacturer, and they will do the replacement for free.  It still would be highly-recommended to make that "backup" before you ship your computer to their authorized repair depot.

If the problem really is a "failing" disk-drive, then NEITHER of the above suggestions will help.

In my opinion, these two suggestions can only CREATE a LARGER problem.

My $0.02 -- do NEITHER of the above.
