I put on my laptop after not having used it in like 5 hours. Then it shut down immediately after booting. The battery level is at least 65%. I tried charging it but nothing changed. It's been up to an hour now and there's still no response each time I press the power button.

Hi,

To isolate this issue I would suggest you to run a test on the battarey. HP provides diagnostic software you can use to test hardware components on your computer and confirm hardware failures. The Battery Test checks your system to make sure the battery is functioning properly. It will test the battery and allow you to run calibration if needed.

Hi,

Please try performing a hard reset on your notebook.

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04718479

A hard reset has the following effects:

  • Clears the memory.
  • Reestablishes the connection between the BIOS and the hardware

The following conditions can be helped by the hard reset:

  • Windows stops responding.
  • The display suddenly goes blank.
  • The computer does not wake from sleep or hibernate modes.
  • Software applications freeze or fail to respond.
