Windows XP?

Windows Vista?
Windows 7?

Windows 8?

Windows 8.1?

Windows 10?

Manufacturer of your computer?

Model-number and  "part-number" of your computer?

Do not post the "serial-number" here !

I presume that your Internet connection is otherwise working? (Web-browsing? E-mail?)

If you "shutdown" your computer, does it show "applying updates. do not turn off your computer" ?

In order for us to help, we need the details. You would be better going and looking at the microsoft site. Sometimes this failure to update is lack of internet connection, or if there was an update for an os like Windows Vista and you didnt do it, and your now doing it, that is what sometimes happens due to end of support. I hope I helped!

No, "end-of-support" for Windows Vista does not mean that Microsoft "broke" Windows Update.

Under Windows Vista, it is quite strange, but quite usual, for Windows Update to take 7 to 10 days of continuous processing (no hiberating, no automatic power-on after NN hours of inactivity) for it to complete.

Been there, done that, on several Vista systems.

There's been lots of Internet "chatter" and bulletin-board posts about this slooooooooooooooowness.

There is no solution, and there never will be, now that Vista has achieved its "sunset".
