Hello:

I have an HPE 490T ,  Windows 7 Premium, 64 bit system, Intel Core i 7 CPU x980 @3.3Ghz .  All 4 sticks of 4gb RAM are same company, speed and DDR3 , the motherboard is a Micro ATX  Pegatron 2A86

I have an issue where all of a sudden Bios only recognizes 2 slots and 8GB RAm.  I reset the CMOS  and now it recognizes only 2 slots--but two different paired  slots of RAM holding the two other sticks.

MSCONFIG  - bios-advanced shows it is unchecked and set to zero for memory (but a test of checking that box only gives 8 GB RAM as max)

I have reset the sticks, the fact that all 4 work also concerns me.

What I have done

1. I need to update the bios-- all i can find on the HP site are updates for the Pegatron "Truckee" -its almost like they dont admit to using the Pegatron 2A86 in the HPE 490T. Where is this support? How do I update tehbios through HP?

2. I tried to find bios updates through 3rd parties like American Megatrends who made these bios  version 6.09 dated 7/02/2010 but they direct you to a pay site

3. I cannot find a Pegatron site with bios although a rumor has it they are made by Asus?

4. I also ran CPUZ and Sisoft Sandra and they both recognize all 4 sticks in the 4 slots used (2 empty slots not showing) they also give good reads on all 4 stocks and ratings

Ok So I am going nuts .  Updating the Bios was a solution a few mentioned, yet i cannot do so from HP as they dont have the updates. Anyone know where I can find this?

When I reset the CMOS I removed the mother board battery, waited 15 minutes then restarted and let it reset autmatically--should I have hit F10 and done it manually?

I seem to remember the bios having options to change system to 32 or 64 yet cant find that now. Maybe that is the issue its set somewhere for 32?

I doubt it is bent CPU pins or else the RAM and slots would not have been read.

Any help?

Thanks in advance

In the theory, the Pegatron 2A86 and IPMTB-TK (Truckee) are the same exact board. IPMTB-TK  should be printed on the motherboard, as depicted below;

And "2A86" will be returned by software identification means. Please try installing IPMTB-TK Motherboard BIOS Update v6.10 from the HP Pavilion Elite HPE-490t CTO Desktop PC Drivers page for your computer.

Also, this motherboard is subject to various failures and was part of a 1 year Limited Warranty Service Enhancement Program (LWSEP) several years ago. Please search the HP Forum for posts concerning the reported issue.

I know mine is green and doesnt have the IPMTB stampings--pretty sure if it has one its the 2A86 --i can look again.

Your comment made me think back to when i first got the comp and I had an issue with one stick--we moved it to another slot and all was well.

I wonder if this is same issue. **bleep** if I missed the swap out Id be upset--not like HP told me about it!

Thanks for your help!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GUea5tJF1Q   this shows the exact motherboard I have. Doesn't say Truckee but apparantly the poster says it is.   Wonder why the model number confusion?

EDIT: Saw where IMTB Truckee is posted on that one. It's in a different spot than the blue board. I'll take a look 🙂  Thanks again

OK updated bios. Now the bios recognizes all 6 slots for RAM, but still only shows I have 2 sticks in same last two slots.

I will play with RAM although the other two sticks were being used when I started this process so I am fairly sure the RAM is ok.

WTH is wrong with this LOL!
