Hey Trialguy,
Here is a link to Hp my display utility.
Here is a document on no sound from speakers.
If these are not helping try press menu , and select factory reset.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

As I said earlier in the thread, I already went through the troubleshooter and already ran through the settings in HP My Display 2 weeks ago. Surely you or someone at HP can help me with this. I've been trying to resolve this issue for 2 weeks or more, and I am at my wits end. Please, someone must have a way to fix this.

Though I'm repeating myself, when the troubleshooter is run, it reports that the peripheral (speakers being tested) is not plugged in. It is plugged in - the new HDMI cable I purchased.
I've seen some other threads on the forum describing HDMI audio issues with Windows 7, though none of them seem applicable to my situation.

Hi Trialguy,
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
Thanks.

Hi Trialguy,
Have you contacted HP yet? If not you can try some other solutions.
1. The best approach is to work with what you have and isolate the known issues. This is to ensure that the sound card is actually functioning. I assume you can put on a headset and hear music or whatever sound your pc is making. You stated that volume levels raised to 75, nothing is muted when you had the HDMI selected as default, but what about the headphones. I read nothing on that. If the green LEDs were bouncing up and down I wonder if it was actually playing. Have you tested with headphones yet? Because if you have no sound at all, you may want to investigate the sound card, the way it is seated and make sure all the connections are properly seated. You can also check the device manager to see if there are any errors, like a yellow question mark or exclamation mark for example and I assume you went though all of this from the troubleshooter you said you reviewed if it contains such information.
2. One thing to consider would be to use or borrow a friends speakers to see if they work. If you replaced the HDMI cable then let's assume for a minute that the signal from the pc is not the issue and if the speakers work then the issue is isolated to the monitor itself and nothing to do with the pc you witht he replaced Hard disk. If the speakers still do not work then I believe this brings us back to where you started.
3. When all of this started you said you re-installed Windows 7 Ultimate and as windows ran an Update, somewhere along the way the monitor speakers stopped working. Have you shutdown the computer and Started it back up cold? When it does this it goes through a complete hard start and performs a POST. The computer checks the audio and RAM and video signals and information of such things. If there was a problem it would identify this for you before windows even loads. You should know to check this as well.
4. Generally in the setup you will find I believe as you pointed out two audio sources when you use the audio-in port and/or the HDMI cable as this may happen at the same time by some users. As a default to avoid conflict of input or maybe output signals some monitors disable the audio-in port when you use HDMI or other configurations may have changed. A key point to know is when the updates were applied to your Windows 7 Ultimate what updates were they and what was implemented. There are ways to fiund this such as through the updates log and event viewer.
5. Remember The settings for HDMI are or can be different in the BIOS settings and for each version of Xp, Vista and Windows 7 for different computers such as Dell or HP. If these tests do not assist you in your endeavors, then do reach out to HP support and at least you will have more knowledge to provide to them so that they will not retrace steps with you except only to verify as they work on a solution for you.
Best of luck. And please update this thread if this issue gets resolved and/or you find another solution or especially if the culprit is identified.

It's now been another 16 months since my original post. I got nowhere with the suggestions in this thread, unfortunately, and have had to settle for using headphones and speakers, which do work from the front panel output jacks on the tower (m9357c) that came with this monitor. It seems ridiculous to have to settle for this as a solution when I know that the monitor speakers work. I'm open to new/fresh suggestions to try to fix this issue finally, if anyone has any.
