Product Name: NY550AA-ABA p6240f
Serial Number: [edited]
Product Number: NY550AA#ABA
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1
Microprocessor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.50GHz
System Board: Eureka3 1.02
System Bios: 5.09
My hard drive crashed and I am rebuilding my system from scratch. I figured I would look at updating the BIOS for two reasons.
First, the bios does not recognize when I set the DVD/CD as the first device to check when booting. I tried every way I could, but it always goes to the hard drive first. I have to remove the hard drive completely from the BIOS or disconnect it internally to get it to boot from the DVD/CD.
Second, I thought it just made sense to get everything up to date since I’m doing a clean install of everything.
I searched the web and this forum and found four different files for updating the BIOS. I tried all four and none of them work. I get one of two error messages:
“Your system does not meet the minimum requirements for this update. Update has been cancelled. (9998)” My assumption on this is that I have the incorrect version of windows.
“Incorrect BIOS for your system (253). Please download patch again. If error continues, contact support.”
I have tried four different .exe files.
SP43102.exe, SP4634.exe, SP56794.exe and SP**794.exe (don’t know the exact name on this one)
I’m not a total geek, but I’m familiar enough to read up on it and then follow instructions. I’m also dangerous enough that at 3 AM Ill try anything (started the rebuild a few times because of this ill advised approach).
I’ve spent hours trying to find a solution on the internet, but these were the only ones I could find. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I don’t want to imply I’m getting frustrated, but my next post might answer the question “Can PC’s fly”
Thanks

Reset the BIOS back to Defaults.
If your problem is not solved look at this about Flashing the BIOS

There are no BIOS updates available for your computer listed on the HP Pavilion p6240f Desktop PC Drivers page. Your computer uses an IPIEL-LA3 (Eureka3) motherboard. HP has a series of motherboards with the IPIEL-LA/LA3 name and the updates you are trying to install are not valid for your computer.

Thanks.
Are there any other solutions to getting my BIOS to go to the DVD/CD first on bootup?
One of the BIOS updates that are for that Motherboard, but not my version, addresses and fixes the issue. I'm assuming that it is a general problem with some versions of this Motherboard.
